Mining for gems, more

Mining for gems, more

xcavating gemstones, with finds guaranteed, is an activity that young and older prospectors have enjoyed (for more than 25 years) at Mother Earth Gallery & Mining Co. in Brookfield. Children of all ages, sporting a miner’s hat with a lamp and armed with a bucket, are turned loose in a re-created mine to dig for gemstones such as amethyst, pyrite, geodes, calcites, fossilized shark teeth and more, all of which can be kept. This is a learning experience in the guise of exploratory fun. The fluorescent mine that glows with green, red, orange and blue specimens is also available for digs by collectors and other individual miners. Parties are available for children 6 and up, and school groups, scouts, camps and others are invited for special programs, as well. The gallery offers hundreds of crystals, minerals, fossils, shells, butterflies and more. There are also handcrafted gemstone jewelry, chimes, meditative Tibetan singing bowls, Feng Shui and Tibetan statuary, fairies, angels, tarot decks, books, candles and incense in a myriad of fragrances. There is a special room with nature-related toys for kids, puzzles, puppets, dinosaurs and more. Hours are 10 to 6 Monday though Saturday, and noon to 5 Sundays.
